"Family Gathering"

Acrylic on canvas.

Tchad Marceau

From the artist: "Family is the most important part of life. Without family, none of us would be here right now. I have a big family I love with all my heart. I don't see them enough and with the pandemic with most of them being in other provinces I became more distant. During that time, I lost someone who meant the world to me. My grandma Monette was a truly amazing person. She was a nurse for more than three quarters of her life and she was loved in her community for her personality and for her time volunteering.

A few years ago she was diagnosed with retinal degeneration and soon after dementia. The woman that was once filled with so much life was now unfortunately blind and fighting with her mind. This piece is my representation of how my grandma perceived the world at the end. She saw most of us in shapes at the end and didn't recognise any of us. These flowers I painted for her will never die, just like her spirit."
